Brief Description In spite of great technological aids, stress and anxiety has become a part of our lives. According to Ayurveda, our inability to deal with stress is due to an imbalance, or lack of coordination of the three main mental functions: Dhi (learning), Dhriti (retention) and Smriti (long-term memory), and a lack of Ojas energy in the body. In Charaka Samhita, W. somnifera (Ashwagandha) is mentioned as “Bajikarana” and ‘Rasayana’ because it promotes health and longevity, arrest ageing process, increase capability of individual to resist adverse environmental conditions like stress.Stress is not an illness in itself, but it can cause severe disease if left untreated. Stress can lead to anxiety, fatigue, eating disorders, depression, headaches, difficulty concentrating and increased anger, relationship troubles and insomnia. Stress Management is thus very important. Traditional Chinese medicine has also been used as complementary and alternative medicine therapies for depression. Clinical trials have been carried out to assess the efficacy and safety of Chinese herbal medicine. But, there are still many challenges in accepting traditional medicines as part of modern healthcare system.
