Our telemedicine activity has started in 2002, when Korea-Japan co-hosted World Cup Soccer Games and these two countries were connected with a big optic fiber. “Genkai project” was organized by industry/government/educational groups in order to accelerate the mutual remote communications in various fields such as education, culture, and business, and Kyushu University Hospital joined it as a medical team.

With the supports from Core University Program of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and from Kyushu University Interdisciplinary Programs in Education and Projects in Research Development (P&P), our activity expanded to whole Asia.

Telemedicine Development Center of Asia (TEMDEC) was officially established in 2008. In 2015, International Medical Department (iMed) was newly established by the University Renovation/Activation Project, and TEMDEC lead globalization of the hospital together with Oversea Exchange Center (OVEX) and International Patient Support Center (IPAC).
